Abstract：The term ‘theranostics’ is a portmanteau of ‘therapeutics’ and ‘diagnostics’. It refers to agents or techniques that couple diagnostic imaging with targeted therapy. Furthermore, it embodies the principle of tailoring treatments to patient subgroups based on specific diagnostic biomarkers—a key feature of precision medicine. Nanomedicines offer great potential to improve disease diagnoses and treatments for various illnesses, including cancer, immunological diseases, and infectious diseases. Firstly, they can incorporate imaging contrast agents, which enhance diagnostic imaging. Secondly, their surfaces can be modified and adorned with targeting entities to improve drug delivery. Lastly, they can efficiently carry diverse treatment molecules, making them an ideal platform for theranostics. In this talk, several examples of theranostics based on nanoparticles will be described. Additionally, a novel method utilizing spatial transcriptomics to evaluate molecular markers associated with the nanomedicine distribution will be discussed.
