Cosmo- & Geochemistry

Geochemistry/Cosmochemistry is an interdisciplinary field deeply rooted in the principles of chemistry. This dynamic area of study explores the past, present, and projected future of Earth and our solar system from multiple perspectives. Research laboratories affiliated with this discipline can be found across a range of locations. These include the Hongo campus, the Research Center for Advanced Technology on the Komaba campus, the Atmosphere and Ocean Research Institute on the Kashiwa campus, and JAXA in Sagamihara. The scope of research in this field is broad and diverse. It encompasses the study of deep Earth materials, the examination of material behavior under extreme conditions, and the tracing of Earth and universal history through the analysis of trace elements and isotopes using cutting-edge techniques. Additionally, it also includes investigations into material circulation within the oceans and its interaction with the atmosphere, observational studies and sample analyses of celestial bodies within our solar system, as well as the development of advanced observational instruments.
